April 29th-May 3rd

*English Language Arts: This week, we will be taking a break from our Language! program to write our own fiction stories.  We will begin the week reviewing the story elements and, then, begin developing our own stories on Wednesday.
*Math: Our math focus this week will be on telling time.  Since we spent all of last week working on place value, we will begin this week by reviewing the hour and half hour.  We will finish the week with a time BINGO game on Friday.
*Science: In conjunction with the 6th grade curriculum, we will begin our constellations unit this week.  Our focus will be on the stars, planets, and their importance.  The following week, we will be joining Mr. Urbas's class to explore the Constellation Dome!
*Social Skills: Our focus for the week will be how the weather affects our lives on a daily basis.

*Math: We will finish up our Place Value unit on Wednesday with a short quiz and then practice time on both Thursday and Friday.
*Science: As we continue with our fossil unit this week, we will make our own fossils on Monday and then read/discuss adaptations over time and what we can learn from fossils.
*Social Skills: After finishing up our career project early in the week, we will both discuss Earth Day and then learn about our Person of the Month-Dian Fossey.

Hope next week brings a little nicer weather! Have a great week!

April 15th-April 19th

Well it seems like the countdown for the last day of school has started already. Only 36 days left of school until summer break!

Here is a look at our curriculum for next week.

*Language Arts/Reading: Phonics and word decoding will be the main focus of Language and reading this week.  We also will continue to practice identifying main idea in texts.
*Math: This week we will further explore place value and it's relationship to the math problems that we complete on a daily basis.
*Science: Our Fossil unit is finally beginning this week!  I know that the students have been anticipating this for a few weeks already.  We will start the week by discussing the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods and the dinosaurs/animal/plant life during these times.  We will move into the discussion of fossilization by the end of the week.

April 8th-April 12th

Here is our plan for next week!

*Language Arts/Reading: In addition to phonics and Read Naturally, we will be reviewing/learning about main idea and supporting details, as well as, singular and plural.  The stories that we will be using to practice these skills are "Bats!" and "Bats in China."
*Math: This week's focus will be on place value.  We will be practicing place value both independently and within the addition, subtraction, and multiplication problems that we are also working on.
*Science: We will continue to read our novels during this time each day.  Our goal is to finish all novels and complete our story element reports by Friday!
*Social Skills: This week will continue to focus on careers, and how school subjects directly relate to various jobs. In addition, we are monitoring our own interests and preferences to see what jobs students may want to pursue in the future!

Don't forget that Tuesday, April 9th is an Institute Day, Parent Teacher Conferences are available on Thursday from 5-8pm, and no school on Friday!

Have a wonderful weekend!
