November 25th- December 6th

With such a short week next week, I am going to post the plan for the next two weeks in this entry.

*On Monday and Tuesday of Thanksgiving week, students will be competing Thanksgiving related math, writing, and reading activities.  In Social Studies, the 7th and 8th graders will be watching Mulan to finish up our Ancient Chinese unit.

December 2nd-6th
*Reading: Students will be reading about three important inventions in the transportation industry: trains, planes, and automobiles!  Students will be creating a time line of events in the development of each area.
*RtI Reading: We will continue to work on the reading skill of Cause and Effect.  Students will read several stories (including "A Tiny World", "The Clever Monkey", and "Shark: Friend or Enemy") and practicing determining the cause and effect within them.
*Math: Students will be starting either the multiplication or time unit.  Students will continue to work on these skills until winter break.
*Social Studies (7/8th only): We will begin our final ancient civilization unit this week on the Ancient Aztec.  We will learn about their religion, traditions, and important ruler/events.
*Language Arts: Students will begin the noun unit this week.  Students will review the definition of a noun and practice regular and irregular plural nouns.

November 18th-November 22nd

Here is a picture of the non-fiction book projects that the students worked on these past two weeks!  They did a wonderful job!!



Here is a look at next week topics!

*Math: Students will be finishing up their current math units in order to prepare for the multiplication or time unit, which will begin after Thanksgiving break.
*Reading: This week, we will be reading a non-fiction readers theater play and other text on Alexander Graham Bell.  The introductory background story for Monday is titled, "Bell's Invention" with comprehension questions.  Tuesday will be a vocabulary day to prep for the story.  Each student will become a "master" of their vocab word and then share with the class. Wednesday & Thursday will be reading the play with comprehension activities/questions to go along with it.   We will finish up on Friday by completing a sound experiment that Alexander Graham Bell used to develop his inventions!
*Language Arts: We will be practicing identifying synonyms and antonyms this week.  Each will start with a review and both class and individual practice activities will follow.
*RtI Reading: We will be starting Cause and Effect this week.  Monday will start with a mimio about cause and effect with several examples.  Tuesday-Friday will be an assortment of matching activities (cause with effect) and questions.

*Social Studies (7/8th grade only): We will be finishing up Ancient China this week.  Students will be reading a culminating review article of Ancient China, view a few short videos, and a mimio on Ancient Chinese contributions, daily life, and children's games (-what it would be like to be a child in Ancient China).

-Wednesday, November 20th- Early Dismissal Day 11:30am
-Thursday, November 21st- Community Trip to McDonalds (during lunch and study hall time)  Please have your students bring money from home.

November 11th- 15th

Here is a look at next week's curriculum.

*Reading: Students will continue to read/discuss their biography texts this week.  Each students has chosen their project that will be completed while working through their book.  The options were to create a movie reel of important events, a informational brochure, or writing two newspaper articles about events in the person's life.
*Math:  Students will be working in their independent workbooks all week and wrapping up their current units in the beginning of the following week.
*Social Studies (7th-8th grade only): We are now entering into our Ancient China unit!  Throughout this week, students will be learning about the geography (by taking a Google Earth tour of China), government, daily life, and religion of this civilization.
*Language Arts: We will spend the week learning about how to write and format a friendly letter.  Students will incorporate the four types of sentences that we practiced last week into their own friendly letter, which will be written at the end of the week.
